The Curse of the Carry Ons

Dear Comedians

Stop trying to bring back "Carry On" movies.

I know it's just another rumour, but take a leaf out of the book of the Holy Church of Don't Be A Dick, and don't be a dick.

They were funny in the sixties and seventies, and remain a high point of bawdy comic farce in the history of British cinema.

Bernard Bresslaw in drag. Sid James going "Kyuk kyuk kyuk". Barbara Windsor in her scanties. Hattie Jacques ...err... in her scanties. Something something Kenneth Williams "infamy" something.

But they remain of their time, and that's exactly where they should stay. Any attempt to revive the corpse is only going to end one way: Woe. I mean, look:

Carry on Cleo: YES

Carry on Screaming: YES

Carry on Up The Khyber: Thought I'd soil my trousers with laughter

Carry on Columbus: SHIT, NO

Stop it. Now.

Although, I confess, Carry on Cameron has a certain ring to it.

Be lucky!

Your pal, etc

No more war based humorous escapades? No historical record of the funny side of conflict?
No "Carry On, Taliban"?

I'd rather remember Hattie Jacques in her large, flowery, matronly frocks. If that's all the same to you.

I'm a big fan of the old carry on movies; favorites like Carry on at you convenience, carry on girls and carry on abroad.

But today a line has to be drawn; films such as carry on columbus is tainting the good comedic value of these old classic movies.

What's coming next, a new On the Buses?

Great post by the way; think you drew that line clear.

Given the way that airlines seem to be one of the staples of occupation related reality TV and comedy nowadays, we could see "Carry On carry on".

Or indeed a mashup of Carry On and Terry Pratchett:

Carry On Luggage.

Hmm... a wizardy one might be good. Carry On Harry.

They did start pre-production work on Carry On London a few years back. Wonder what happened to that?

You know, it wouldn't be too bad if they could get the set designers who worked on that Mitchell and Webb sketch (70s bawdy hospital).
